It began on a family road trip through the Southwest when I was a child. There I purchased a small piece of handmade pottery. With that it started, my passion for pottery.
I was born and raised in the Kansas City area. For the past sixteen years I have resided in Peculiar, Missouri along with my husband and three children. My start in pottery took place in 2001. I began taking classes at The Potter's Obsession of which now I enjoy my own studio time. I have studied under master potter Judy Thompson and other local potters. In 2005 I established my own studio located in my home. Now I teach wheel throwning classes on Thursday evenings for the Potter's Obsession located off of Holmes and Blue Ridge in southern Kansas City, Missouri.
My work consists of both wheel thrown and hand built pieces primarily consisting of Laguna B-mix clay fired to cone 6. I love to work different techniques into the clay. Although most of my pieces are kiln fired using interesting combinations of glazes, I do enjoy the unpredictable effects of Pit and Raku fired pieces.
I draw my design inspiration from all the diversities of nature. Organic layers of canyons, lush green forrests, to delicate flower petals feed my creativity.
In the beginning of 2007 I became the Art Event Coordination Chair for the Downtown Peculiar Arts and Culture District and in 2008 I became the Vice President. So along with my passion for the arts I help promote the creation of a thriving arts district serving the southern Kansas City area.
As of December 1, 2011 I became part owner of The Potter's Obsession, LLC. This is a very exciting time in my life because I will be living my dream to educate people in the way of the clay along with doing something I love.
Currently my work can be seen at:
